Alfreda and Preston support each other to navigate the challenges in their life.

For my capstone class project, I created a magazine from cover to cover. I was the photo editor, photographer, reporter and the designer.

"I don’t tend to think that a man should be bossing a woman around for every, every little thing. I tend to think it really is a partnership." Entering into the sixth year of their marriage, Preston Silvey and Alfreda Silvey are thankful for every day that having each other by the side.

In 2011, Preston Silvey and Alfreda Silvey met on an online dating site. At that moment, Preston, a survivor of a malignant cancer called neuroblastoma, has never left the Athens City where whites ranged from 80 to 90 percent of the population while Alfreda was living halfway across the world, the Philippines. And fate brought them together in 2013.

From then on, they support each other as a family to navigate the challenges in their life. The distance, Preston's disability, their financial difficulties, the stereotypes on cross-race marriage, and cultural differences, none of those can hinder them from loving. "We are thankful for what we have," Preston said.
